2020.12.13 - Third Sunday of Advent (John 1:6-8, 19-28)
It's John the Baptist again this week. While we wait for God, our lives must give witness to the love of God through our very efforts as disciples. How will our voice of love be heard in our actions?
The Opening Prayer mentioned in my Fervorino:
O God, whose will is justice for the poor
and peace for the afflicted,
let your herald's voice
pierce our hardened hearts
and announce the dawn of your kingdom.
Before the advent of the one who baptizes
with the fire of the Holy Spirit,
let our complacency give way to conversion,
oppression to justice,
and conflict to acceptance of one another in Christ.
We ask this through him whose comi...

Sunday Gospel reflection with Fr. William Grimm - Third Sunday of Advent (B)
The place we really live our faith is not in a church. It is in the desert of our workplaces, our schools, our streets, our homes. There is no other place for the world to hear our call to prepare the way of the Lord, to join us on the way of and to the Lord.

(A classroom prayer service can be found below) When I got married more than fifteen years ago, I got to share an incredibly important day with friends and family from my past. They were there because they were invited... in much the same way as God has often used prophets like St. John the Baptist to invite us into relationship with Him, as we hear in this Sunday's Gospel. Third Sunday of Advent
Lectionary: 8
Reading 1
Is 61:1-2a, 10-11
The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me,
because the LORD has anointed me;
he has sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor,
to heal the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives
and release to the prisoners,
to announce a year of favor from the LORD
and a day of vindication by our God.
I rejoice heartily in the LORD,
in my God is the joy of my soul;
for he has clothed me with a robe of salvation
and wrapped me in a mantle of justice,
like a bridegroom adorned with a diadem,
like a bride bedecked with her jewels.
As the earth brings forth its plants,
and a garden makes its growth sprin...

---------------------------------------------
As we journey through this time of preparation, the liturgy on the Third Sunday of Advent invites us to rejoice! Why? It’s because God becoming one among us, which Advent enables us to look forward to, is the only source of true and lasting joy. Genuine Christian faith does not make us long-faced. Rather, it should make us enthusiastic and happy!
Well, what is it that will bring us joy and happiness? Anything good that we possess brings about joy. But all the good things in this world, apart from...
