Have you made yourself available for God? When we "allow ourselves" to be owned by God and to be at His disposal, we begin to understand the meaning of true freedom. This is the homily by Fr. Sunny Castillo at saint teresa Church on January 18, 2015, the Second Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle B.

From the beginning God recognized this essential characteristic of human life: "It is not good that the human should be alone." (Gen. 2:18) We are only complete in our interaction with one another.

14th January 2018, Second Sunday in Ordinary time Year B God’s Call and our Response God wants to associate humanity (men, women and children) with the announcement of the Kingdom. The Call of Samuel reminds us that every person has a vocation. This entails that God calls individuals and destines them to accomplish their own irreplaceable tasks. In God we live a life of grace. God calls and man answers. The young Samuel says: “Speak Lord, your servant is listening”. Without the disposition to listen, God keeps silent. In today’s Gospel John the Baptist directs his disciples to follow Jesus, Andrew invites his brother Simon Peter to meet Jesus. Jesus recognises his potential and call his the rock that he will build his church. May we discover our strengths and talents and recognise the Good News call Jesus makes upon our lives. Jesus changes SImon’s name into “Peter” which means rock. This means that Peter is now invited to embrace a new identity and mission as a follower of Jesus. We are also called to change our ways into more loving people that act with justice and mercy. Today we meditate with John 1:35-42.
