Bishop Barron on the Resurrection of Jesus
Q&A with the Archbishop - Understanding the Resurrection
The Resurrection - Venerable Fulton John Sheen
Venerable Fulton John Sheen (born Peter John Sheen, May 8, 1895 – December 9, 1979) was an American bishop (later archbishop) of the Catholic Church known for his preaching and especially his work on television and radio. The cause for his canonization as a saint was officially opened in 2002. In June 2012, Pope Benedict XVI officially recognized a decree from the Congregation for the Causes of Saints stating that he lived a life of "heroic virtues" – a major step towards beatification – so he is now referred to as "Venerable."
Ordained a priest of the Diocese of Peoria in 1919, Sheen quickly became a renowned theologian, earning the Cardinal Mercier Prize for International Philosophy ...

The Resurrection of Jesus and the Sign of Jonah
Why do the first Christians believe that Jesus was raised?
There were three major reasons that the early Christians gave for believing the Resurrection:
1. The empty tomb
2. The appearances of the risen Jesus
3. The fulfillment of Scripture
The problem with number 3, the fulfillment of Scripture, is that there is no explicit prophecy in the prophets that says that the Messiah will be raised on the third day, yet many of the New Testament writers say that Jesus was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. So what exactly are they talking about?
The answer is in the book of Jonah, which Jesus himself alludes to in Matthew 12 when he says “for as Jonah was three da...
Is The Resurrection A Lie?
The Resurrection Makes Life Worth Living
Easter Sunday: Many people in the Western World today exhibit much confusion in regards to just Who God is. Modern men, in many cases, dismiss God as if He did not exist or they posit an impersonal force that expects and demands nothing from us. Who would die for such a "god?" Life is not worth living unless there is something worth dying for. With the dogma of the bodily resurrection already present in seed form, many Old Testament patriarchs, prophets, and yes martyrs were able to pass from the world with peace and even die for the Faith due to the consoling message of the resurrection. This holy mystery of our Lord's triumph over death, makes our life worth living, for there is somethi...

The Resurrection of the Body
...A second thing that’s really crucial to highlight about the Resurrection is the element where the text says, “They went in and did not find the body.” I cannot stress this enough, when we talk about the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, we have to make absolutely sure that we know what we’re speaking about.
There’s lots of confusion about what we mean by the Resurrection of Jesus. And all of that can be cleared up if we focused on that word, right there: they did not find “the body”. The Greek word there is soma. And when it’s talking about a dead body it means “a corpse”. So, when we talk about the Resurrection of Jesus, the discovery of the empty tomb, the fact that there’s no corpse i...
The Resurrection, one might say, is the Good News of the Gospel.
And, when the Sadducees approached Jesus about marriage in the resurrection, attempting to trip him up, Jesus makes some pretty bold assertions, almost as if he is speaking with authority as one who knows or has been to the locale where those who are resurrected will arrive.
Listen and consider to how Jesus speaks of the resurrection of the body, life after death, and marriage in the life to come in this video clip with Dr. Brant Pitre.
To learn more about this passage where Jesus' encounters the Sadducees in the Gospel over the question of the resurrection, marriage in the after life, and the connection between it, the ...
Resurrection on the Third Day Explained
On what day did Jesus die and rise again?
"On the Third Day He Rose Again"
In the Creed we say that Jesus rose on the third day, but if Jesus died on a Friday and rose on a Sunday, isn't that just two days?
In this video I explain the math behind the Resurrection and why St. Paul and even Jesus himself referenced the three days in the tomb between his death and Resurrection.
These three days, of course, are the reason we celebrate the Paschal Triduum on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday.
