Scott Hahn and St. Maximilian Kolbe

One of the most influential saints of the 20th century was Maximilan Kolbe, who not only lived the gospel message by laying down his life for his brother, but also began one of the most powerful Marian movements today, the Militia of the Immaculata. In this video, Scott Hahn talks about his personal devotion to St. Maximilan Kolbe.

How to Approach the Bible

Getting into scripture can be overwhelming and confusing! This week Dr. Hahn shares pointers from his own journey on how a simple change in mindset can help us approach scripture. Adopting a holy humility, admitting to the Lord what doesn’t make sense, is the key. Dr. Hahn coins this as the holy “Huh??” This childlike honesty and intellectual simplicity open a new relationship with the Lord and allows Him to reveal his Word speaking to us.
Yours,

Scott Hahn on the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Novena to the Blessed Mother, Queen of Heaven and Earth
I greet you, ever-blessed Virgin, Mother of God, refuge of sinners, and Queen of the Universe.
Most loving Mother, attracted by your beauty, sweetness, and tender compassion, I confidently turn to you, and beg of you to obtain for me of your dear Son the favor I request in this novena: (mention your request).
Obtain for me also, Queen of Heaven and Earth, the most lively contrition for my many sins and the grace to imitate closely those virtues which you practiced so faithfully, especially humility, purity, and obedience. Above all, I beg you to be my mother and protectress, to receive me into the number of your devoted children, and to guide me from your high throne of glory.
Do not reject my petitions, Mother of Mercy! Have pity on me, and do not abandon me during life or at the moment of my death.
Accept this offering, sweet Queen of Heaven and Earth, and obtain for me from your dear Son, Jesus Christ, the favors I ask through your intercession in this novena. Obtain for me also a generous, constant love of God, perfect submission to His Holy Will, the true spirit of a Christian, and the grace of final perseverance.
Amen.

Understanding the ‘Our Father’ – Dr. Scott Hahn – Deep in History

In this lecture from our 2009 Deep in History conference, Dr. Scott Hahn examines the seven petitions of the Lord’s Prayer, and takes a look at why this prayer is placed in the liturgy of the Mass after the consecration, and before the distribution of Holy Communion.  He looks at the context in which Jesus teaches the prayer during the Sermon on the Mount, the significance of referring to God as “Father,” and more.  Dr. Hahn argues that the ‘Our Father’ is a prayer that we pray much, but ponder little; and argues that a better understanding of these words, which come directly from the lips of Jesus, can lead us to a deeper appreciation for our relationship with God.

“Abraham: Father or Master?” Dr. Scott Hahn

Dr. Scott Hahn, Fr. Michael Scanlan Chair in Biblical Theology, spoke to Franciscan University of Steubenville’s 2011 Defending the Faith Conference “Ambassadors for Christ.” This is a 20 minute excerpt from the larger talk “Abba or Allah:The Difference it Makes” “For the last quarter of a century,” said Dr. Hahn, “I have shared a conviction with a growing number of people that Islam really does represent the single greatest force of the third millennium and also the single greatest challenge and threat to Christianity worldwide.” Dr. Hahn explains the very different conceptions of God in Islam (as Allah, Master) and in Christianity (as Abba, Father) and their consequences for life, religion, and interreligious encounters. “There’s a profound difference between slavery and sonship,” Hahn declared. “Until the sons of God outserve the slaves of God, Christianity is going to continue to dissolve.”

Scott Hahn Offers Divine Hope During Pandemic: “Hold Up The Light of the Body of Christ”

Catholic theologian Scott Hahn recently spoke with ChurchPOP English editor Jacqueline Burkepile about his latest book, Hope to Die: The Christian Meaning of Death and the Resurrection of the Body.

The founder of the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology provides hope, especially during this coronavirus pandemic. He explains why we should not fear of death, and touches on God’s presence during this time of crisis.

“The greatest miracle that Christ could do is not simply to help us discover a vaccine and a cure, but to cure us of our own disordered fear of suffering and dying. This disordered fear of losing natural life, when in fact, what we ought to fear the loss of supernatural life.”

We are group of Catholic filmmakers and designers who are crafting a gorgeous and compelling documentary on the Catholic Church’s most cherished tradition: the Latin Mass. Yet many do not know about it.

This is the Mass of history, the Mass of the saints, and its popularity is growing. Why are young people flocking to this ancient Mass as soon as they learn of it? It is the only way to restore the morality and reason that once made Christendom a just society that was pleasing to God.

In this documentary, special care is given to portray this precious sacrificial liturgy with the reverence and awe it deserves. The filmmakers will interview Catholics from all walks of life to investigate the power of the old Mass and the profound effect it has on our spiritual lives. The aim is to show that the loss of faith the Church has experienced in the last half century will only be repaired once there is a return to Christ and His real presence in the Eucharist, and that the Traditional Latin Mass is where we are to receive Him and worship Him with the utmost solemnity and adoration.

Ep. 80 – Bring Out Your Dead – Scott Hahn

Modernity treats the human body pretty much as a machine for the production of pleasure. It is tuned up, fueled, and oiled for peak performance, and then when it is no longer of use, it is burnt and disposed of in a maximally efficient manner.

Paradoxically, the denial of a soul which persists after bodily death has led us to deny the body itself as fundamental to human identity. The allegedly soulless modern has less hope of resurrection than the Saducees ever did. We somehow fear death more yet never engage with the reality of death.

Scott Hahn joins the show to talk about how the incarnation, death and resurrection of the Son of God changed how our civilization viewed the body, death and the afterlife. Unfortunately, even Catholics today treat dead bodies in a way that does not convey this reality. Yet how we approach death & burial has the potential to show the Catholic difference and evangelize our culture.

Contents

[1:24] The present confrontation (or lack thereof) with mortality and death

[4:28] Modern Gnostic attitudes towards the body

[7:21] The ancient pagan sense of reverence for dead bodies vs. that of the Hebrews

[15:08] The duality in Jewish treatment of corpses

[23:48] Shift to early Christian attitudes

[29:12] Rediscovering a healthy, balanced and hopeful view of the human body

[31:41] What does it mean that we will have “spiritual bodies” after the resurrection?

[47:07] Catholic beliefs about the consequences of failing to properly bury the dead

[53:50] Revival of cremation by French revolutionaries, Masons, Communists and neo-pagans as a deliberate attack on the Church

[59:51] The relevance of sacramentals and relics to the question of cremation

[1:05:05] Inordinate fear of death during the present pandemic; reasons for hope

Christian Catholic Media is run by a Catholic family in California.

WHY DO WE DO WHAT WE DO?

Every day many Catholics leave the Church.

Many of the reasons they leave the Church have more to do with them not knowing enough about their faith or lacking spiritual strength. We are here to help with both of these issues.

Our mission is to help get people to Heaven. To educate and inspire Catholics to defend and live out their faith and grow closer to God. It is also our mission to lead non-Catholics into conversion to the Catholic faith.
